5 carat diamond ring FAQ

A lab-grown diamond engagement ring is an engagement ring that features a man-made, laboratory-created diamond instead of a mined diamond. The only difference between the two diamonds is the point of origin. Because a lab-grown diamond did not have to be mined, the engagement ring is free from human and environmental toll.

A VRAI created lab-grown diamond engagement ring goes even farther, however. We convert greenhouse gas into sustainably created diamonds in a zero-emission, hydropowered foundry.

The best way to find your ring size for your engagement ring is to have it professionally measured by a diamond expert in person. However, there are other ways of measuring your ring size on your own.

Measure a current ring

Choose a ring that correctly fits the finger you are purchasing the ring for. Lay the ring over each of the sizes on a ring size chart until you are able to find a match. The inside of the ring should match as closely as possible to the circle on the guide.

Print a ring sizer chart

Print and then cut out a ring sizer. Wrap the ring sizer snuggly around the widest part of the intended finger so that the numbers are visible to you, then insert the pointed end through the slit you made in the sizer. Make note of the number that lines up with the slit — this is your ring size.

Order a complimentary ring sizer

VRAI’s complimentary ring sizers can be ordered and shipped to your home.

Go to our Custom Engagement Ring page to begin the process. You will book an initial consultation with our diamond experts to discuss your style options. Then your original inspiration will be translated into a VRAI design. Once you set your budget, we will assist you in selecting and purchasing your VRAI created diamond(s) so that the creation process can begin. You are provided with a computer-animated design (CAD) for your customized piece.

The most important thing to remember about the 4Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat weight — is that one rule does not apply to all diamonds. Select your diamond shape and engagement ring setting first to know which of the 4Cs to prioritize.

A high quality diamond cut is important as it will affect how light enters and exits a diamond. We encourage customers to select an Excellent cut for all diamond engagement ring shapes, or Ideal and Ideal + Hearts for Rounds, for maximum shine.

Diamond color is graded on the absence of color. Colorless diamonds are ideal for those wanting a platinum or white gold engagement ring setting that will not imbue the diamond with additional color. For yellow or rose gold settings, Near Colorless diamonds are a wonderful choice.

Clarity measures the visual purity of a diamond and takes inclusions and blemishes into account. Very, very slightly included (VVS) or Very slightly included (VS) diamonds feature inclusions that are invisible to the naked eye. These grades are a wonderful choice for your engagement ring.

Caratrefers to a diamond’s weight. Certain shapes maximize carats, making a stone appear larger than its weight. Engagement rings featuring Marquise, Pear, Emerald, and Oval shaped diamonds tend to look bigger on the finger than a Round Brilliant diamond that weighs the same.

The worth of a 5-carat diamond ring will range depending on the diamond shape, diamond grade, and the ring setting. While carat weight greatly impacts a diamond’s value and price, higher quality diamonds and more popular diamond shapes can be worth considerably more.

The price of a VRAI created 5-carat diamond with a classic Solitaire setting and a plain gold band will start around $9,900 and go up from there.

A 5-carat diamond ring is big, but not too big for an engagement ring. A diamond of this size will attract considerable attention and is perfect for diamond lovers.

At 5 carats, any diamond shape will appear big and beautiful with a scintillating shine. The best diamond shape for a 5-carat ring depends on your preferences, budget, and ring setting.

A Round Brilliant cut diamond is the most popular shape for an engagement ring and will look true to size at 5 carats. But Round Brilliants will also cost more than any other diamond shape of similar quality.

If you prefer size over all else, then elongated diamond shapes like an Oval or Marquise cut would be best for you, as they maximize their carat weight.

Since any diamond shape will appear large at 5 carats, you can also consider diamond shapes that tend to appear smaller than they are, like a Cushion cut or Asscher cut diamond. Their understated beauty will be perfectly highlighted at this carat weight.

When choosing your diamond shape, consider your preferred setting. The setting you choose should protect any sharp points or corners for a diamond of this size. This means that a Pear or Princess cut diamond may limit your setting selection. If you don’t love the settings that best protect their delicate points, then you may want to choose a different diamond shape for your 5-carat ring.

The diamond shape and ring setting will determine how big a 5-carat diamond ring looks. Certain diamond shapes appear larger than they are, while other shapes appear smaller face-up.

Additionally, select ring settings will make your 5-carat diamond appear even larger, such as a Halo, Hidden Halo, or Bezel setting. You can view how big each 5-carat VRAI created diamond ring will look online. Select any ring setting to see it virtually displayed on a size 6 hand.

The best setting for a 5-carat diamond ring is the one that best enhances and protects the diamond. All VRAI engagement ring settings are designed for any carat weight. But, depending on your lifestyle, we may recommend choosing a setting that offers enhanced protection.

Bezel settings are considered the most secure setting as they cover the entire diamond, including its points, corners, and edges. A 6 or 8 Prong setting, as well as a Halo setting, will also offer additional protection for your 5-carat diamond.
